Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of the use of the short movie 'Let's Eat' on the ability to write descriptive texts of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 163 Jakarta. This study employs an experimental method with a quantitative approach. The population in this research consists of 216 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 163 Jakarta, with a sample of 40 students, including 20 students from class VIII-A as the experimental group and 20 students from class VIII-B as the control group. The analysis results for the experimental group show a mean score of 78.4, median 79.5, modus 80.92, variance 91.98, and standard deviation 9.59. Meanwhile, the control group yields a mean score of 68.1, median 70.1, modus 73.8, variance 178.35, and standard deviation 13.35. The research findings indicate that the t-score > t-table, which is 2.801 > 2.024. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence from the use of the short movie 'Let's Eat' on the ability to write descriptive texts of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 163 Jakarta.
