Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see the improvement of English speaking skills in class VIII Junior High School students 222 Jakarta through the story telling method. The sample in this study was class VIII E, which consisted of 34 students. The study used a test before treatment (pre-test) and a test after treatment (post-test). In this study, the average post-test score was 81.85 higher than the pre-test score, which was 64.91, which means that there is a significant effect of using the story telling method on improving English speaking skills. In this study, the results of tcount 5.383 > ttable 2.034 with α = 0.05. Thus, it means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of the story telling method which can develop vocabulary, creativity, thinking skills, hone memory, and can improve English speaking skills of class VIII Junior High School students 222 Jakarta.
